For anyone confused in like your fx or gesture animation controller, the different things and toggles are layers, click on the settings wheel thing, look where it says mask, for left hand, select the left hand controller thing, for right hand, select right hand controller thing
For the first layer, or base layer, that's where you put the other mask that I can't think of the name for
