Nicholas's life was cut short during his scholar years. No longer could he attend classes. He takes his death as something that was destined to happen. He finds solace post mortem, now learning things at his own pace now that he's got all the time in the world.

Getting over the early zombie years was definitely a struggle, but that's life..
or afterlife at this point I suppose. After that hurdle, things became clearer to him.
